CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR

Saturday races are always a bit strange and the Valentine's Kamasutracat stayed true to this: out of 18 racers only four were couriers but after two weeks of snow, rain and freezing temperatures it's not surprising most people wanted to stay as far away from their bikes as possible, so it's nice to know there's plenty of other folks happy to keep our scene alive for us, and raise some cash for the LCEF.
To be honest, me and The Pistette turned up late and left early ( I even managed to miss almost all of the racers at our checkpoint cos I was waiting for a pint of Guinness at the bar ) but I think everyone had fun, the weather was nice and I didn't see anyone crying. I wasn't going to bother saying much about the race, but then Darren emailed the results through:

1 BBQ (Aussie) Mike
2 Alex (Fromemory)
3 Corinne - 1st Girl
4 Rob C
5 Sano
6 Liam
7 Jonny H
8 Arsene
9 Massey
10 Juliet - 2nd Girl
11 Marco DFL!

DNF: Dean, Cengiz, Fred, Adam, Nick, Georgie(F) & Sam(F).

If you look at finisher No.10 (Juliet) she came so close to making Al**ycat history and becoming the first person to achieve the Unholy Grail of first in your class* and DFL** the chances of this even being do-able are minutely slim and usually would require the entire rest of the field crashing.
I know guys who would piss their bib-shorts to get that result and if I'd known how close we were to this on the day I'd have done something to help it happen ( I know I could've got Corinne DQed for being rude to checkpoint staff ) but as it turns out she ended up second in both contests, so it looks like I'll have to wait another 10 years for the planets to re-align. I don't want to detract anymore from Marco's well deserved DFL so I'll end with something I thought I'd never hear myself write:

The leader of the male Al**ycat points championship is BBQ "I'll just do a couple of checkpoints then hit the pub" Mike.

The Points Contest

BOYS
BBQ Mike 100
Alex 70
Rob C 30

GIRLS
Corinne 100
Juliet 70

*It doesn't count if your the only girl, out-of-towner or whatnot in the race.
**You may have noticed we've being trying to resurrect interest in DFL as a achievement worth aiming for and I think we've been reasonably successful. For those of you who don't know DFL is only rewarded to people who finish last with a complete and correct manifest. Giving up halfway through is not tolerated. It's all about never giving up, soldiering on in the face of adversity and having fun ...but just taking ages to do it.
